While the Bundeswehr has a wide variety of uniforms, there is one that every soldier wears at least once during their service period – battle dress. A combat helmet, load-carrying equipment with pockets, gloves and a weapon round out field dress.

General officers wear an inner piping of gold braid; other officers wear silver piping. Lapel facings and piping are maroon for general staff, green for infantry, red for artillery, pink for armor, black for engineers, yellow for communications, and various other colors for the remaining branches.

Bundeswehr uniforms are based more on 50s and 60s US uniforms instead of previous German uniforms for political reasons. BGS uniforms were closer to German ones but that also changed by the 70s or so.
